Mission & Vision

Mission

The mission of United by Music is to provide year-round music training and music performances for talented people with disabilities. United by Music offers them continuous opportunities to develop their musical talents and to share their talents with the community. Furthermore, they get the chance to demonstrate courage, make new friends and experience acceptance.

Vision

The ultimate purpose of United by Music is to help people with disabilities to be productive and respected members of society at a large scale. The aim is two sided: on the one hand, United by Music is willing to improve the quality of life of the artists by giving them new opportunities, on the other hand, United by Music wants to challenge the attitude of the public, regarding people with intellectual disabilities by demonstrating their talents.

Principles

The principles on which United by Music was founded, and which must continue to guide the operation and expansion of the global United by Music movement, include the following:

  • A. Although people with intellectual disabilities may have certain limitations, they all have their own personal skills and talents and these talents should be emphasized. Everybody should have the chance to develop his or her talents and to share it with the world.
  • B. People with intellectual disabilities can, with proper instruction and encouragement, enjoy, learn and benefit from participation in musical performances.
  • C. Consistent training under the guidance of qualified music teachers is essential for the development of musical skills.
  • D. People with intellectual disabilities benefit mentally and socially from participation in United by Music. The artists, audience and the community at large scale are united in an environment of equality, respect and acceptance, both through participation and observation.
  • E. The artists of United by Music need to meet some eligibility requirements. They need to have sufficient musical talent, confirmed by a professional musician.
  • F. Everyone in the organization is seen as an equal. We all have the same rights and same responsibilities, we are all human beings.
