Romanian Organization

In 2018, the United by Music Romania Foundation has been registered in Sfântu Gheorghe, the honorary president being the famous jazz singer Luiza Zan, the establisher is the reformed pastor Péter Makkai, whose name is associated with a series of social projects that serve the social inclusion of people with disabilities.

The Diakónia Christian Foundation and the Iris House in Sfântu Gheorghe, guided by reformed priest Péter Makkai, employ and integrate people with disabilities, many of the social projects are linked to his name and the relationship with United by Music in the Netherlands is an old one. Now the Dutch are partners of the United by Music România Foundation. Embracing people with disabilities with artistic talent it s not new to the Diakónia Christian Foundation and Iris House: For seven years they have organized the music festival called "Outsider Music Fest" for people with disabilities. The festival will continue now under the umbrella of the United by Music Romania Foundation, which considers the Diakónia Christian Foundation and Iris House to be the most important strategic partners.

The music festival "Outsider Music Fest" last time was organized in April 2018, with the motto "Music unites us", where eleven musical groups were performing, totaling 140 persons. This was the only musical event in Transylvania, which was organized exclusively for people with disabilities. The United by Music Romania Foundation wishes to extend the event nationwide, enabling all disabled people in Romania to show their musical talent to the general public. The last two editions of the "Outsider Music Fest" festival were included in the official program of Sfântu Gheorghe Days, and the concerts took place on several scenes in the town center, in front of hundreds of people. This was an extremely important step towards the social inclusion of people with disabilities. Music is an integral part of everyone's life, capable of forming a community for very different young people, but also for the elderly with different disabilities. People with disabilities from the Netherlands, Hungary, Romania (Târgu Mureş, Miercurea-Ciuc) local musicians and singers occupied the scene for several hours as a team.

The "Outsider Music Fest" was launched in 2011, in order to fight the marginalization of people with disabilities, but also to discover and promote talent among them. The event also aims to encourage people with disabilities to use music and art as a therapy.
